Last Butterfly

When hatred died

Forgiveness was born

Hatred lived a long time

It was born when faith died

When faith died

hunger, cruelty, sickness, fear

All that hurt

joined forces

becoming one great weapon

Joy was murdered

Laughter hung silent in dead trees

Hope was raped

Happiness disappeared

Every creature cried

until there were no more tears

Rain stopped

the sun was cold

Flowers died

Nowhere to go, the last butterfly

landed on the nose

of a starving little girl

She giggled and started to laugh and laugh

The butterfly sipped on the nectar of her smile

then flew away unharmed

Hearing her laughter

Dead cocoons opened

with new born butterflies

They flew to her

Covering her entire body

sipping upon her smile

The little girl grew fat

with laughter

What was to be her grave

bloomed with flowers

Butterflies flew from her full body

unto noses of people

young and old

both cruel and kind

Bouncing on their laughter

Sipping on their smiles

The sun was warmed by happiness

Rains showered gently

washing the pain away

Graveyards grew less

Gardens grew more

Enemies became friends

bellies fill with food and laughter

War ended

All God’s creatures played with the butterflies

crying tears of joy and gratitude

The little girl grew big and strong

She lived a long time

Her children and grandchildren never knew hunger

Only fullness and contentment

Butterflies floated in the breeze

free and plentiful

Peace and happiness covered Mother Earth

When hatred died

forgiveness was born

Love was planted forever
